Cook County's new strategic transportation plan is set to revitalize Chicago's aging infrastructure by 2040, priorityzing the development of commuter and commercial rail, bike lanes, and walkways. After 70 years since the last plan, this framework calls for the removal of "transit deserts" within city limits, and responds to projected decreases in automobile use among youth and the elderly.
